There has been much talk in the last 10 years about the coming of LED lighting, which is now finally achieving the critical mass required to make the economics of conversion not only viable– but desirable.

Take for example our recent conversion of the Concordia Swimming pool.

The pool was using 44 of a 250w metal halide ballasted fixture, inside of acrylic spherical lenses. The fixtures were dated, maintenance intensive, and the lenses were beginning to crack. Replacement was fairly simple with Lithonia’s D series LED fixtures. The site now uses 38 fixtures which provide directed optics, meaning less light pollution; instant start, 100,000 hour rated life with less than 1% fail rate, and a much sleeker look. In addition, they consume 74w each, or less than 30% of the old fixtures, and we could light the same with 6 fewer fixtures. Meaning that the net consumption is around 25% of all metal halide.
